Tax Help

Did you know sick leave or family leave credit maybe reported as credit on your tax return? Well, it's possible you can add this to your return. See more information in the tax topic below.

Can I claim the Credit for Sick Leave or the Credit for Family Leave on my return?

You may qualify to claim the Credit for Sick Leave on your tax return if you were an eligible self-employed individual that was unable to work (including telework) at any time from January 1, 2021 to September 30, 2021 because one or more of the following apply:

  1. You were subject to a federal, state, or local quarantine or isolation order related to COVID-19.

  2. You were advised by a health care provider to self-quarantine due to concerns related to COVID-19.

  3. You were experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and seeking a medical diagnosis.

  4. You were getting or awaiting the results of a COVID-19 diagnosis or test if you were exposed, or your employer requested the test or diagnosis.

  5. You were obtaining a COVID-19 vaccine.

  6. You were recovering after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

  7. You cared for someone who was subject to a federal, state, or local quarantine or isolation order related to COVID-19.

  8. You cared for someone who was advised by a health care provider to self-quarantine due to concerns related to COVID-19.

  9. You cared for a son or daughter (or other family member if April 1, 2021 - September 30, 2021) because the school or place of care for that person was closed or the childcare provider was unavailable due to reasons related to COVID-19.

If you cared for your child or other family member due to reason number 6, you can claim the Credit for Family Leave if the number of days you cared for them exceeds the number of days allowed for the Credit for Sick Leave. If a day meets the requirements for both the Credit for Sick Leave and Credit for Family Leave, you can only count the day once. Don't include the same day for both credits.
